You would probably laugh and say they lack significance
But to one who loves you, they’re the most precious of moments.

I stop whatever I’m doing each time you mow the lawn
To admire manly beauty that’s not just result of brawn
You go about your business, doing what needs to be done
Sweat pouring down your body as you toil out in the sun.

I’m reminded of the many times sweat has soaked our sheets
From vigorous sharing of love and numerous repeats
And an appreciation for you fills my heart and eyes
I’m a very lucky woman... and this I realize.

I try to wake before you just so I can watch you sleep
An overflowing tenderness may let a few tears seep
Your face is free from worries that you try so to conceal
And a younger, vulnerable man is in rest revealed.

I know responsibilities are what carved all those lines
Wonder how many of your dreams have had to be confined
To do what’s best for everyone else? How can I thank you
For doing what you without hesitation always do?

I watch you laughing at yourself when some obnoxious chore
Bests you for a moment... but then you tackle it once more
I know that you’re exhausted when you get home from your work
But you shoulder other burdens, without being a jerk.

So many times I’ve seen you brush the tiredness from your eyes
And hurry to answer little ones and their plaintive cries
For Dad to play just one more game... and help us build a fort!
There’s more to being head of house than financial support.

So you’re a sight for these sore eyes when dressed in Sunday best
But your goodness shines all the time... and you really impress.

Four years ago, I followed a group of friends onto these blue pages and settled in. *S* This poem has nothing to do with that. *G* But I can't let the anniversary pass without saying:

Thank you, Ron Carnell... for giving me a home where I could find poetic encouragement... and meet people who would change my life in ways I never dreamed. *S* Writes like these of happy home life are still imagination... but PIP has definitely given me a happier life... and I thank you for giving me a room with a view in this home you've created! *S*

Dear suthern this is a wonderful, very touching tribute to your man. There is love, tenderness and gratitude ... awareness of the gift you have been given.
... you stir something within my heart ....

And congratulations for your FOUR years of permanence in this home of Passions!
Love, Margherita

Enchantress: They are special… whatever family they belong to. * S* Thank you so much, kind lady. * S*

Seymour: I’d love to! LOL But I’ll have to keep one eye watching out for Isabel sneaking up to land her frying pan on my head! LOL Thank you, dear friend. *S*

jellybeans:  And you think it’s not fantasy here???? LOL My cats are both females… and they don’t do chores… no matter how appreciative I promise to be. *G* Thank you OLD o & o… but aren’t you younger than me? LOL

Margherita: I have been given a great gift… not exactly the one I wrote about, but the poem wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t been gifted. *S* Thank you so much… I’m glad it touched you. *S*

gempop:  Your response delights me… and I thank you so much! *S*

and four is just a beginning… fair warning *G*

Happy Fourth, Suthern!
What would we do without our Passions?
My little corner of the world would
be a much sorrier place, of that,
I am sure!

Congratulations!

That fellow would probably describe himself as ordinary, but if he knew (and he would) that somebody saw him like that, he'd feel like Superman.

There's the heroism that earns you medals in five horrific minutes, and there's the heroism that leads you quietly to do what needs to be done for years and years, with no thought of a material reward, because it needs doing and you're the one who should. And by the way, I know for a fact that you qualify -- you've done this very thing yourself, and yes, for years and years.....

An excellent piece of poetry, Suthern lass...here's to four more years, and lots more after that!

after that we might get into trouble...but I am awake....rofg

and lol@suthern and her cats...am still smiling...at least you have an imaginary yard, with an imaginary man mowing the grass...I don't even have grass....lol, much less the imagination or creativity to write about a wonderful man mowing it......*smile*

can I just ask if you buy your cats catnip? *concerned look*

Sunshine: Considering the angst I experienced when unable to access for a while this afternoon, I’d need the ‘stute! LOL Thank you very much!

Nephew: Yup… four years today for Toe and me. *S* And Ron’s probably still wondering why he didn’t just slam the door in our faces... or send that sailor overboard before he could give us directions. *G* Yums... leather huggzzzzzzzs  *G* (But speak for yourself about that awake schtuff! LOL)

HFG: Behave yourself before I tattle about how you acquired those initials. LOL The cats create chores... but don’t lift a paw to help. *G* And no… I don’t buy catnip... had some to plant this year, but they nibbled so enthusiastically on my basil and mint that I never planted cat drugs. *G* I was too busy replanting basil and mint! LOL

Ratleader: I’ve always heard that courage isn’t lack of fear... but acting in spite of fear. *S* And in the same vein, real heroes don’t wear capes or soar above skyscrapers or capture news headlines... they simply do what needs done... over and over again. *S* Whether or not I’m in their ranks, I have more appreciation for them than those who bask forever in the glow of a 5 minute accomplishment. *S* Thank you so much, my friend... yes indeed. *S*

Fantasy poem or not...your gift of rhyme comes in only second to your sincerety of expression.
As to your anniversary...Pips is better for having you here...and I, for one am grateful for the chance to have gotten to know you beyond the poetry and put a voice with the rhymes. By the way poetry land...Ruth has the most wonderful laugh. Thank you for all you have shared and that I have learned from you, both personally and in your poetry.
Happy Anniversary Ruth

JM: That gratitude's a two-way street, yanno. *S* But are you SURE you're not fond of my laugh just cause it contrasts with my usual sniveling? LOL Thank you so much, kind lady! *S*

Toerag: You raised fine children who adore you, my friend... I'd say you did things right. *S* Thank you very much!

JamesMichael: I'm glad... thank you!

Patricia: Your tears honor and humble  me... and even if I know it mainly through observation, I'm so glad it exists... and reminds. *S* Thank you!

vandana: Thank you... I'm glad. *S*

ecrivan: Thank you very much! *S*

Ruth....I was deeply touched by your words in this poem, even though you call it your imagination, you must have learned somewhere, how it should be.  Any woman would be blessed to have your "ordinary man".  Happy Anniversary!!
