She is going on the long road to wherever
the toxic air is thick with her regret
layers of meaning passing through her notice
chill on morning covers from last night’s draft

Missing the edge that ate the moon like supper
so far to go to find that midnight pool
only a line that moves with desperation
and the sound of quiet water far below

Let it pass she tells inside of eager
his lips are dew on sandy beach of time
your waiting for the water like a river in a drought
and release is on the other side of out

Over the edge of sleep she hears him calling
of something wild and winged in bright below
the night she now releases to her pillow
while taking the elevator to get home

Feeling the longitude and latitude of discontent here...a silent anguish.
Impressively written. TD

You write of the inner sorrow exquisitely.

Your writing either
keeps one from breathing
or taking a breath
or just catching it
in hold...

yes, it is just like that...

So enigmatic, this one, so many dimensions in one poem that it's hard to hold them all. The way you show the flow of emotion, make us feel it with you, is just stunning....

"Over the edge of sleep she hears him calling
of something wild and winged in bright below
the night she now releases to her pillow
while taking the elevator to get home"

....and this -- the levels of it...you weave magic carpets, Martie. And to think I almost missed this, by being gone at the wrong time!

So many emotions course through me as I read this... including awe at your abilities to paint so vividly with words. *S* Excellent!
