This little poem I write
might not be understood
Before I got my little Scooter
I surely never could

Understand how my friend could love
her little dog like a baby
I even told her that it might
be just a little too much, maybe

But then for a gift
I got this little dog of mine
It has been a year and a half now
and we get along real fine

I've had pets all my life
and I really did love them
But this one I'm more attached to
I hope I'll always have him

From the start he has been
as special as can be
Because he was a Christmas present
that my Love gave to me

I never did like to let
in the house a dog to stay
But little Scooter from the start
in here most of the day

With him in my bed
I even let him sleep
That started out when just a puppy
and in his bed he would weep

I know when I talk about him
some think I'm mighty silly
But like my friend said to me
it doesn't matter, really

I've got my Love, my daughter,
my family and lots of friends
But my little Scooter
a loving ear always lends

He listens to me when I have
happiness, troubles, or woes
It seems that with his instincts
my moods he always knows

When I come home from going places
and doing things I have to do
He greets me with such love and joy
like I've been gone for a year or two

So, if every now and then
a poem like this you see
I'm just talking about my little Scooter
who is like a "baby" to me

It made me feel an appreciation...
for animals really.
How, unlike people, they seem always happy
to see you when you've been away.
Even for a moment...
just a little while.
Kinda makes me wish I had one to call my
own..ya know?

Very nice and cute - both the poem and the puppy....reminds me of my first puppy...a lhasa apso...Your effections for the puppy come out really well in this poem.

Great write here and so understood!

I have a cat and his name is Acetin. He is almost 30 pounds and is only a year old. But, he is heaven sent, and follows me just like a dog. Pets are great. Wonderful write.

had a little dog named Snoopy one time.

Saunmir, your cat sounds like Gary's Dad's
cat. He's as big or bigger than my dog. My dog weighs about 18 lbs.

he looks like a puppy, but he's grown already.
He's fat but has little ole short legs, like
a dachshund.
