they hang there

like the jewel of a crown
      an inch from our forehead

a part of our memory
          but
    apart from our touch

they bless us in ways
we can't see
             unless
we
     bless ourselves
with a mirror

then
we can...

        hear their curves of face
in the turns of our eyes

through the years
     of our lives

measure our deeds
through the dead
    and
"there lies..._____________"

      I have not known
the grief that is sharpest
my grief is dull

           death......... yes
but not that close to bone

my skin merely shows

           scars

not

but not that close to bone

~*~

without being able to feel
one can never truly know grief...

I have
and sometimes it's even within
the bone.

Brian - this is an amazing write.  Thank you.

Very nicely fashioned, in every way

You leave me quiet, yet again.

I have no wise words how to cope with the inevitable. I'm STILL trying to find my way, bri.

gentleheart, you.
