He spreads cards on the table,
and laughing, rakes in chips.
I’d speak, if I were able,
but instead I wet my lips

with an unwilling tongue,
and fold my losing hand.
Once upon a time, when young,
I thought I’d make a stand.

I dreamed I’d hold the ace,
I thought I’d take the pot;
I never knew I’d face
a time when dreams can rot.

Listen to that rooster crow;
I guess he won the bout.
Another game? Thanks, but no,
think I’ll sit this one out.

Ruuuuby, I guess you know when to show them--and when to fold them!

Kinda sad, Pilgrim!--but a very good poem!

another night spent in smoke infested waters - sounds like your desire to go to Vegas is leaking out your pores - much to our benefit.

I suppose it's a good thing that we don't see it coming when we are young . . . what would we do?
Enjoyed this one.

Thanks, guys! Yes, I'll be in Vegas in a couple of weeks, and I guess I'm seeing life through Vegas eyes. I so appreciate all of you commenting-it makes me feel like I'm not really alone after all.
