love is

Love is such an uncertain thing,
hot cold sizzling flat,
like something thrown on the burner.
Maybe.
Maybe not.

Runny in some spots, crispy in others.
Blind and staring, yet seeing
without thought,
shallow and deep all at once,
thinking now at half zero and infinite.

Bright shadow in a galloping sit.
Yesterday's fossil teeming with maggoty angels
and sweet kisses.
Ordered well-done and served hardly easy ever.
A certain worry.

Delivered on a razor's edge
and costing all the nothings
you'd swear meant everything tomorrow,
love will crawl jump at every pore
in a rocky cliff rut.
Someone else's hanger-on thing
and our sure fire riddly answer.

Aphrodite serves in on Mars
and Cupid grows it on Venus.
It's an easy-over hard up jelly grit,
consumed with forked fingers,
all mushy stone,
alone in pairs on the inside lane
at Indy 500
with a side order of cold dogs
and washed down with a frothy mug
of salt
just under the checkered flag.

We make better omelets
and like them less.

Announcing!  My novel COOL UNIVERSE is now posted in the prose forum.  Enjoy!

Ericc -- thank you very much.  Yes, this is several years old.

Marti -- it would help if I knew what I was talking about.

Suddenly I'm craving fried eggs...but anyway, I like this:

Delivered on a razor's edge
and costing all the nothings
you'd swear meant everything tomorrow,
love will crawl jump at every pore
in a rocky cliff rut.
Someone else's hanger-on thing
and our sure fire riddly answer.

I like your twisted mind...as you know...and mine must be twisted, too, because I have been in the above arena, and am just now able to see it...ok, I'm keeping this one, too...

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
