Beyond the mirror

I stare at the glass before me,
Seeing the frozen state,
Myself with dead eyes,
I know someday that is my fate.

I touch the glass and feel,
The world about me shimmer,
The reflective glass ripples,
And light within does glimmer.

Gulping back fear I push on through,
And I emerge in a strange land,
All about me are mountains of crystal,
I’ve never beheld a sight so grand.

I step into this new world,
Somewhere from the other side,
Is this heaven?Is this hell?
Or just another dream ride?

I walk across these plains,
Loving the harmony I feel,
Away from the pain of reality,
Into this peace my mind does reel.

For days I am alone, until I see her,
A maiden of the earth so pure,
Her features are perfect in all ways,
And I feel a love stronger than before.

She smiles and beckons me close,
I follow her into the crystal river,
The cold of the water tests our strength
And her naked body makes me shiver.

Before I know it we are one,
Arm in arm and mouth in mouth,
She tells me she had waited for me,
To come through the mists to the south.

I tell her of my life,
At hearing of life beyond the mirror,
She jokes and laughs loud,
Before she draws me nearer.

One month passes,
And soon we are wed,
Joined for eternity,
And no longer do I feel dread.

I forget about the world I knew,
For me it is no longer real,
Just a forgotten dream,
Uncountable joy is what I feel.

I know not how long passes,
Though beyond the mirror my house decays,
Has it been many years?
Or merely a few days?

I ask the elder of my tribe,
He tells me time is constant here,
And that I should absolve all belief of it,
Relieved, I feel, the slipping away of my fear.

So now I am immortal,
In a world of frozen glass,
Forever joined to my love,
For an eternity we shall last…
