A Message On The Rolling Sea

The year eighteen seventy-
Waves crashing men fighting for their life, wondering if they will make it once again to a safe harbor.
The ship begins to break, the wind roars and this sound is
like the cry of a wild banshee in a howling rage.
Men pull and strain knowing death is at the door.
The mast begins to fall, men thrown into the churning sea.
Morning.
The sea once again a glass of serene tranquility.
Broken shards of a once mighty ship, debris floating
everywhere on this quiet morn.
A lone man holding onto a fallen mast knows his time is near.
He thinks of a love left behind and their last words of anger.
He spies a bottle a short distance away and as if the fates
predicted his fate a long time ago, a small pencil and a small piece of paper still remains hidden in pocket covered with stains of his broken body.
He begins to write, his thoughts not clear.
My sweet Annabelle these words I send to you.
I love you darling girl and if the gods allow, this message
will flow into your loving hands.
You have my heart darling girl; there has been no other.
Oh! It is so cold. It is getting hard to see.
I’m sorry for my angry words, please forgive.
So cold, so tired.
I seal this bottle with a kiss, my love.
Good bye. Be happy my darling girl. Good bye.
