In understated grace,
she walks in summer rain,
cooling off the memories,
those that punish her helpless.

Never sure of the wind's direction
she takes to the street
walking the edges, balancing the dreams
that deepen the waters,
splashing their coolness in droplets
lingering
pleasures
that explode this night
lighting up the sky in bursts of hope
wishing that you were there to
see the child within.

The air took shape, the message
written across the night
its touch just out of reach
though shadows keep you alive in her mind
and just warm enough
