Every tree

Every tree stands apart
its lonely branches extended
from an acorn cast out

       each spring reaching above
       its hardened view
       each summer stretching across
       thin air

Bent by four unseeable winds
its shape is defined
and gnarls in age

Leaves and leaves are sent away
but roots
       hidden from view
may touch and fuse

and such is the way of life itself,
that the gnarliest roots often hold
the greatest source of beauty and wisdom

I'll be keeping this one, Krawdad.

Krawdad

A tree is strong and independent, but nourished by the closeness of touching roots...Enjoyed the thought of this and how it relates to many things.

This is lovely.  I have read it several times.  Think I shall go back for one more.
