Darn You, Fellow Travelers!

sometimes I’d rather pretend
that I’m the only one

that no one would understand
how I feel,
what I’ve been through,

and then
I run across
a curse of a verse

and it all becomes too clear again;
I have to learn
that others have been there, too

that I’m not alone
and that I must realize
there’s a way to be a comfort
to those with like experiences

that I, too, can glean from
the response of others
as they “get it out”
deal with it
punch it in the nose
pinch tight its toes
then sing the pain away

giving room for the clouds to part
and allow the sunshine
back in

How else can blue sky
find me?

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Well said. I know the surprise of reading something, and saying, how did they know?

This is a very nice poem!

I thought it was going to be something different -- and you may want to think about changing it for this reason -- the term 'fellow traveler' is used by spies and terrorists to signify one of their own -- I thought this was going to be about terrorism... terms like this also send up red flags to the FBI's carnivore...
