Bearing a Heavy Heart

The downdraft drifted swiftly
bringing summer to halt right
over midsummer’s Midwest hot
though all she could think was

that the heat had cooled her off
in more ways than one…

in some ways, a blessing, less
being more

in other ways, a drought of feel,
reminiscent of sands, and shores

for where is solace in cottonwood
when dreams of one
are slogged in life’s mire
as the other’s…
skip in summered streams

~*~

She looked over at her partner
of some years,
mentally turning him off
for the words he was spouting
were the same as she had heard
since the beginning

and she could not understand
the need for his repetitious sputter
When it was all talk

No action.

If she could not have action,
or even emotion, for he drained
what was good
at least she could hide away
in her writing

where her fantasy could make
the commitment of a heavy heart
bearable.

~*~

For a dear friend, who finds her poetic way through night's shade...

Dearest Deca, I cannot find the words of gratitude for this unbelievable (yet truer than true) write. Tears well up and subside as I know the outcome of the story. The little tribute signature at the bottom though.....tears did spill. Thankyou so much for your "knowing" heart. hugs, Chris

Deca

sometimes the bearing of a heavy heart is made easier by a friend who understands.

This one was different, difficult, and depressing. Well done.

I believe this is an acute affliction of many marriages and other such partnerships.  Though I know it doesn't have to be that way. I have seen others who have been in marriages and are as much in love as they were in the beginning.  He/she still treasures what the other shares in words and otherwise.  I have found such a person, I believe.  He just doesn't know how he feels yet.  He will, though, he will.

Thanks Deca...I know this.

Decaflame, I knew this very thing for many years. He would spout off all these words. I finally learned to tune him out.

He made fun of my writing a lot of times to me, (unless it was concerning him)...but then would brag about my writing to other people. That kind of abuse is so hurtful.

Thank you for this. I know that your friend appreciates it.
Hugs
