I said I'd like to buy some flowers, to pretty up my yard,
Something hale and hardy, because I find it hard,
To keep some flowers growing, they tend to up and die,
I follow all directions, and so I don't know why.
The clerk replied, I'll help you out, we'll find you something nice,
Impossible to kill and pretty, and at a real fair price.
Unfortunately my wife was there, she offer her two cents,
She said perhaps those roses there, to plant beside our fence.
Said the clerk, I'm sorry ma'am, although they are a steal,
They're plastic decorations, those roses are not real.
I suggest the marigolds, they'll grow most anywhere,
My wife replied, it's best we not, with flip of head and hair,
I still prefer the roses, and I will tell you why,
Anything my husband plants, most certainly will die,
At least with plastic roses, if that's what hubby plants,
I'd say for their survival, a fifty-fifty chance.
She just went on, no shutting up, she spouts in her next breath,
You see to plants and flowers, Tim's known as doctor death.
Our gardens bare, no plants are there, not a flower on the place,
I think I'll buy my wife a present, perhaps an empty vase?

ROTFL at this one. Ah, I'd still stay away from plastic. But then again, if that's what she wants? or perhaps hire a part-time gardener to stop by once a week?

enjoyable write, Tim

Tim this is fantastic and made me smile! It can't be true ... just be stubborn and plant some really delicate flowers and whisper your beautiful poems to them (preferably love poems and recited in moonlight when nobody is around!) ... and you will see how they will react gratefully!
Great!
Love, Margherita

Thank you both for the kind comments, as some might suspect from a poem or two I have written over the years, I do have some rose bushes amongst the other flowers in the garden and they have just commenced to bloom, so the gardening Dr. Death is enjoying his roses right now.

Your roses are ahead of mine, I'm afraid...but I'd rather look at a brown yard as opposed to silk and plastic...make it real, or forgive me not...

Enjoyed this bit of whimsy, Sir...

Tim...I was glad to see your explanation for I know how much you love the rose.  Plastic...LOL..cute!!  They collect dust!!

PS..I know a good florist who could fill up that empty vase.

Tim, this is really cute. I love the way
you wrote it, too. I felt like I was skipping
along as I read it.

Thank you all for enjoying my little ditty.
Spring has sprung on the plains, roses blooming except for those in the northern Siberian like places, (Salina... sorry Sunshine hehe)
Unfortunately, along with spring's first blooms come the storms.  A lot of death and destruction last night, but life goes on in the rebirth of a rose.

First rose of spring, to thee I sing,
Thou art the jewel of nature’s bring,
Within thy petals secrets borne,
Protected by thy piercing thorn,
Beauteous bloom from heaven sent,
Perfuming with thy fragrant scent.
From frailest bud thy wonderous form,
Erupts in blaze to Helios’ warm,
Red velvet petals in satin bouquet
Gem of the gods on earthly display.
Thou art the breath of springtime dawn,
The splendor of angelic spawn,
God above on us bestows,
Perfection of springtime’s first rose.

Quite all right, Sir...
Family from the West Coast called last night [or I should say, this early a.m.] trying to find out if we were all in the path of the several tornadoes that overtook KC, both KS and MO, and places beyond.  Of course I'm that way when it comes to earthquakes...we never know if they are in the pathway or not, as they can be felt for counties beyond...

and I'm putting this back to the top so our folks don't miss your second pretty...

and...

my roses will be in bloom soon enough...

Oh Tim how I am giggling at this! I think you'd better grab hold of Marge's beautiful rose and hang it by your fence.

Great write ... hugs, Marti

ROFL... I was about to volunteer my services as horticulturist... plastic roses have NO perfume! *S*

I like this so much, Tim... and your poetic response is just beautiful. *S*

awww...well I have a few neighbors in town that actually plant plastic geraniums and unless you stopped to touch, they appear real when driving past.  So maybe  instead of an empty vase, why not buy her what she wants. You won't ever have to replace them, or water them or debug them...Enjoyed your tale.

Thanks for the smiles Tim. I call my hubby in the garden "Dr. Scissorhands" as he love to just clip the "you know what" out every bush I have planted. He leaves the flowers alone and up to me to take care of - thank goodness. Enjoyed. Chris
