Points Of Departure
By: Noah Eaton
4/28/03

Lucky I've got hands so I can salute to my private empire
Lucky I've got legs so I can run from my fears
There are some days I look in the mirror and don't like what I see
Other days I reconsider, taking note my fate can't be preconceived

Naive I was expecting life to be all about spatial complementarity
But now I know there's more than just intervening opportunity
I'll wear this compass rose around my neck and take cruise control
Contradiction is my middle name, so watch me begin to rise from below

And I'm charting
Points Of Departure
And I'm rising
From these Points Of Departure

I've been sitting in the airport terminal for four straight hours
Regretting all the times I never made that flight out of here and chose to let the apathy embower
And how I saw Jesus and the New Testament's blessings as break-in-bulk point
Now I've found a shortcut right through the light I can simply pinpoint

And I'm charting
Points Of Departure
And I'm rising
From these Points Of Departure

While scientists still seem to misinterpret the meaning of topography
Where Weiss and Hall fail to realize you're constantly reincarnating
And we bend the world between Mercator and Sinusoidal projection simultaneously
Trying to find a way to be free without bending the possibility

Seems when everyone claims they're looking straight they're really far-sighted like the Tropic of Capricorn
Seems the Global Positioning System is always missing the prime meridian by a mile or more
I'm going to draw a line to connect the antipodes
I'm going to break the isthmus and let the boats come out to sea...

And I'm charting
Points Of Departure
And I'm rising
From these Points Of Departure
And I'm charting
Points Of Departure
And I'm rising
From these Points Of Departure

I'm going to re-claim my territory
I'm going to make cartographic laundry
And chart Points of Departure
I'm going to make a contradiction
And spread my wings for freedom
Rising from these Points of Departure

You've got to start somewhere...
You've got to start somewhere...

Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story

***Shakira***

This is a great write. With all the information out there and within sometimes we still choose not to believe. With all my beliefs that I know I still hide them within a simile and a metaphor.

Thanks for sharing this Noah.

You are are a brilliant writer Noah....
Sometimes I think you read the dictionary for sheer pleasure.  Where are you flying??? What a good piece of writing.....

Noah, may your flight carry you as far as your dreams can go. Would you mind stopping in Boston for a bit so I can meet you?

There are many things I love about your poems, and one of them is the words I am forced to look up in the dictionary. It's amazing to me what a fantastic and extensive vocabulary you have. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Wonderful writing.  Luvs and Smiles, Marti
