~*~Angel In The Light ~*~

Thirty years, and I’m still lost
Not knowing who I am.
Upon this sea called “life” I’m tossed
And I can’t see the land.

I let the torrents pull me down
Undercurrents strong
I fight and flail and gasp for air
Is the sea where I belong?

Waves they drive me - harder - under
Bubbles swirling round
I’m like an angel underwater
Living, but not found.

The dark below, it beckons me
So peaceful, yet so deep
The sunrays reaching down to me
My face, so warm, they’d keep.

Do I swim up, or just let go
To slowly disappear
Into the fathoms far below
Since land is what I fear.

I hear my children calling me
They’re waiting on the sand
I must escape this tempting sea
They need to hold my hand.

If I’m an angel of the sea
Then I must walk upright
Upon the land until I’m free
An angel in the light.

Well, there's lots of other angels loose on these pages....I think they'll all love this.

I would like to tell you how much I liked this line by line, but I'm afraid I will annoy you, making you have to read a bunch of long replies. I will say though, that I think the world of this poem as well.

I really like you using the sea as a metaphor. You have a knack for picking perfect metaphors Your imagery is intense, and oh the questioning, the feeling that you are on the edge and can go either way, I love that!

Oh the part with the sunrays lighting your face deep below the surface is Especially good, and the decision to stay after seeing the image of your children upon the sand, wonderful.

This is my favorite poem of yours in the sense that it offers hope at the end. Not an answer, but a willingness to struggle on until you find one. And that is a profound message.

Oh you rock!!! Keep writing, I assure you I will keep reading

           ~Hugs~ Mike

P.S.-Hesitate to say this, cause I don't normally like to do this, but if you would like to talk about these feelings you are having or anything else, with someone who struggles on as well, don't hesitate to E-Mail me. Ok, now that I've made a fool out of myself, I will leave you alone.

Noah - Thanks BUNCHES from one mermaid fan to another! I think I used to be one in another lifetime or something. It just seems to "fit" so I go with it! LOL

Wranx - Coming from someone of your caliber, I am humbled by your compliment! Thanks for taking the time to read.

MikeFessel - First let me say, that your comments will NEVER annoy me - you are so funny! I appreciate each and every one!  It does me well to know what others like in my writing and style. I am one of the most patient mermaids around, so don't ever worry about annoying me. It's an honor to have others read, as you well know. And just between you and me, you have not made a fool of yourself, ok?  I'm really not as depressed all the time as these pieces make me sound - but if I ever find myself drowning, I will certainly flag you down. You're so nice, you just can't be real!

Excellent -- how did I miss this?

...and it reminds me a bit of one of mine, an angel thrown into an alien place... /pip/Forum64/HTML/003079.html
