The People that break Hearts

My heart has been breaking
for the last five years of my life.
The sound is not what startles me,
even when my temples beat like an open vein.
It’s when things get quiet...that I stop
and forget how to act.
My face, sort of drops, losing expression
and I ask,
“Is it over?”
“Is there nothing left
or has every chard settled in my stomach
too small to make another fraction?”

This is where you make your entrance
and when the crackling resumes
like a wind chime waiting to move,
I know..the shift changed
and the tool’s chipped again.
They seem to lose a mallet every six months,
something to do with the head being so heavy
and my aorta running too fast,
that keeps them from finishing me
off.

I’m never comfortable with that pause,
I’ve been trained too hard, not to be careful.
Still there is moment worth saving
for all the things I have compromised to look guarded.
I have created a pocket of time for some promise,
that I will forget you.
But, even in my little corner of light,
they are working with my compulsions,
to cast the shadow of my inner fool,
with a snicker of applause.

Now, my pockets have holes
and me,
I’ve got little hope
that I will ever forget
any of you.
I've simply come to accept
that this is the way things are.
So, I will just keep building walls
for them to crack.

whoa..that line just lifts off the page with its ache.
very expressive write here...so many powerful lines and analogies used to create this angsty emotive piece.

People that break hearts are everywhere you have to be one that doesnt and hold your head high as one who doesnt. Great piece thankyou.
