Coffee.

Jean poured me a cup as I sat down
And left the pot.

Bless her,
After just a few days she had learned
That until I had a fill of caffeine
Come morning,
I was worthless to try and talk to.

I’m not sure why I ended up here
Savannah of all places
But the weather wasn’t bad
The people at least civil
And there was an air
Of eccentric that permeated
Everyone.

Jean busied herself with customers
while I sat nursing my head
And the coffee for about an hour
Until I saw his reflection
as he walked through the door
In the stilted stiff way
Of someone who has been too long
Behind the wheel.

“Running” I thought to myself
as he sat down and Jean put a pitcher of tea
in front of him and dropped off a menu.

I went back to musing on what next to do
When Jean walked by and said
“You heard him Buddy”

Somewhat startled
I chuckled and said “sure did”
And waved her off to the kitchen.

Something about this fellow
And this day was beginning to
Creep into me like fog
On an August morning,
Interesting to see,
And a nice break from the heat.

Did you give anymore thought to the book idea you had?
You really should make it happen.

you just do this so well ...
capture americana and people in versed vignettes like Rockwell captured it in his paintings.
very cool pairing of two of my fave poets

You're the best I've ever felt ...
it's so wrong not to be with you.
It's getting harder to stay away,
it stops my heart just to be with you.

Oh No No No Joyce!  Musn't peek at the endings...not when the trip in getting there is 3/4 of the fun!

Yanno? You guys are starting to look alike. Ain't it enough that you share the same brain?    Sheesh!

Liking this much, fellas. But it seems just too easy though, this melding. Perhaps a check on the ol' DNA would be in order.

Mebbe yer dubble cuzzins or sumtin'.

First... this is Duncan's trip... I agreed to come along for the ride and the pace of the trip is entirely up to him..LOL. I agreed to write a character in his story line and tell it from another set of eyes as he lets it unfold. Now... knowing Duncan... I'd not any of you be holding my breath waiting for him to get in a hurry.. LMAO... way I hear it he gets distracted pretty easily and big things like oh I don't know... the refrigerator kicking on seem to distract him terribly. I suggested he give up cold beverages for the life of this story and unplug the fridge...but he was not to keen on that idea..

Second.. and most important... thank you all for taking time to read and to comment. It is appreciated and always a pleasure to know someone read what you offered..

Third.. thank you again

Forth.. Hey Dunc... where's the next installment? LOL If I could read your mind I'd just write mine ahead of time. LMAO

Fifth... I can't believe he named this guy "Buddy"... LOL.. I keep seeing the beverly Hillbilly show in my head when I read that name..

Ed... you know funny you should mention that... LOL.. when we got to trading e-mails Duncan asked if I thought we were seperated at birth...

I told him based on the age differences if we were it was because Mom was in labor so long she couldn't stand the thoughts of two of us and left before she had him... LMAO..

Always knew I was orphaned... geez..

(chuckling) Dunc..edit away... if that's what you want to do... just remember the name you choose will haunt you... I am sure I can write one real quick and give your character a name... something you haven't done yet... or better yet a nickname...
how you like Squatting Dog? or how about...
Little Runs?

as for abuse... I haven't even started..what are you talking about?
