A Child's Pain

To watch a child in pain,
not knowing how severe the hurt is
made me ache inside.

A beautiful day wth friends,
an outing waited for, for months
lasted only an hour before a missed catch
and a fall and break of a bone
sent the day into an emergency frenzy.

Five hours it took, between X-rays
and doctors and nurses giving shots.
The screaming of a six year old is hard to take.

Such a little guy, trying so hard to be big.
And once asleep, the break was set and
until this very moment, he is still out of it,
but finally home in his bed.

When he awakes he will have a blue cast
and sling on, and hopefully will have
something special to say for "Show and Tell."

I understand this all too well.  In fact, my little one slammed her fingers in the window on Friday.  I had to take her to E.R.  No broken bones, thank goodness.  The pain she endured could be heard in her screams and cries.

Very well written.

It took four of us holding him down so he could get the injection that would ease the pain for the x-rays alone.

I guess some have a higher tolerance of pain.
This was a complete break at his wrist so maybe some breaks are more painful. I don't know because I have never broken any bones of my own.

Then they put him into a temporary sleep for at least the 15 minutes it took to reset it and then put the cast on.
He just never woke up from it for over an hour waiting there. They said it was traumatic and a long day for him since it happened at 2 and this was almost 8 already. Probably was a good thing so he can get some needed rest.
And now I am off for the night, I am worn out!

Maureen~ Comfort him and make his favorite dessert. My son broke his wrist once, had a cast for 6 weeks got it removed and 3 days later broke the same wrist again. He was 11 years old at the time...Paul

Oooohh, bless his little heart. I hope that he heals really fast and doesn't re-break it like Paul's son did. A child's bones are so fragile. It hurts me, too, to see the pain of someone.
I hope you get rested, too, Lady.

Hugs,
Ethel

I don't think I could have survived experiencing this little guys painful cries. I want to know when he comes out from under the anesthetic. It bothers me that they sent him home before he came to.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Paul, I hope he doesn't ever break a wrist again. Right now he's afraid to go to school or even move much. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Thanks Ethel, I had to get up at 6 and go and babysit him until his Mother could get the day off of work.  Sleep? sometimes I wonder what that is.

Sue, I know you know what it's like to be in pain. Hope all is well with you.
Hugss

Virginia, he woke up shortly after we brought him home and  was awake all night which kept his 9 year old sister and mom up all night.
I thought it strange that they sent him home too but his vitals were fine and those emergency rooms like to make room for the next.

It was an experience. His screaming did get him looked at faster than the many others in the waiting room.

Maureen:

Bless you both

This I relate to well - always feel
so awful when there isnt much you can do when they hurt except the thing they need
the most . . . that being yourself   xxoo
