From Webshots

~**~
Dwelling in our minds
is a place where memories stay
They are put into our memory banks
accumulated from day to day

Some of these memories
stored there are very bad
Hurtful     heartaches      painful
ones we wish we had never had

Yet there are some of our memories
we have stored in our heads
that are so happy and joyful
of our lifes road we have led

The problem with our memories
that I seem to find
Is that whenever the good ones come
sometimes the bad also comes to mind

Especially if they are
about our past love
Who instead of being peaceful
sometimes would push and shove

But even if his abuse
was not always physical to find
His hateful  words and actions
were abuse of the mental kind

This is the kind of memories
I had rather not think about
I wish I could keep the good memories there
and just throw the bad ones  OUT
~**~

Yes dear Ethel you CAN throw them out .... for you have so many beautiful NOW-MOMENTS that the space the bad memories fill in, is just destined to get smaller and smaller until they will disappear.

Beautifully said!

Much love, Margherita

Wonderful images. You don't need to throw them out..use them to grow and find inner strenght. Seems liek you have done this. Yes this poem did touch my heart. I can relate to the central theme.

Make your words as sweet as honey, someday you may have to eat them.

Ethel,

First, your words are very thought provoking here.  I will quote this stanza because it struck a cord in me:

But even if his abuse
was not always physical to find
His hateful  words and actions
were abuse of the mental kind

The mental kind of abuse, my friend, I believe is the worse kind.  It manifests in the ugliest of ways, ways we can't understand or recognize as abuse until it has depleted our self-esteem.  I know.  The physical abuse, yes, I know this too!  And no doubt about it, it is horrible.  But the mental abuse...well, I am healing now.  Unfortunately, it is never forgotten.

Now you have Gary...a beautiful relationship, right?  Is it not more special and beautiful because of those bad memories? No doubt, based on your poems, you have something absolutely terrific, but is it not more terrific, more special because of the pain who have endured?

It is that adage: You can't know pleasure without pain.

Of course, I do not know all of the pain you have endured in the past (I am not sure of all you have endured, but I am sort of basing your situation on what I went through in my own marriage).  But I do believe, Ethel, your beautiful poetry is such an inspiration to individuals like me because you have been to the other extreme.  You see every beautiful loving thing in your Gary, and your heart sings, wishing to share your story.  Thank God!  I really enjoy your sweet and beautiful writings.

I hope all of this made sense to you.

Love,
Patricia

Margherita,
thank you so much. And, oh yes, I'm thankful
for the "NOW-MOMENTS". Yes, slowly but surely
the bad memories are disappearing.

Patricia, you're right....mental abuse stays longer than the physical scars.....most of the time, anyway.

Oh yes, Gary and I do have a beautiful relationship. We are both so very thankful for each other. And, I do think it may be more special to us because of our past hurts and pains. Those things make us realize what we really do have together.

I also believe that God lets us go through things sometimes so that we can help others and to have more compassion for others. Oh, you are right...I do love to share the wonderful love story of Gary and me.

Thank you very much for your sweet words....and it made  PERFECT  sense to me.      Thank you!!

Hugs
Ethel

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Ethel, I too wish I could keep all my bad memories away, dearest friend, I'm sad a lot because I never got to live one happy day as a boy with the nightmares and seizures and abuse, but even while that makes me cry, I believe God made me feel pain only so He could make me stronger and become a better loving person, for I would have been selfish just like many other people if I hadn't experienced it! (sad sigh) But I dream still of loving a girl and being able to hold onto her forever unselfishly and be faithful to her my whole life, God Bless You, I know you and Gary are meant for each other because of you always happily telling us aboutn him and how he too must be so loving and compassionate, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah, if you'll notice, the people who have been through the most hurt and pain are ususally more compassionate for others. Like I told Patricia, I believe that God does let people go through things, sometimes, so that they will know how others feel and will be more compassionate and helpful to them.

I'm so sorry that you had problems when you were growing up. If you hadn't you might not have been able to work with the children and be such an influence on them.

Hugs to you, friend

Hello Ethel

Your words were so very moving and it saddens me to think that someone has hurt you.  I hope your writing brings you solace and I know that there are many people here who think so very highly of you.  The picture was absolutely stunning.

Take care......Sue

Ethel:

missed you . . .

toss those memories out - right
this very minute!
(yeah right - I know
easier said than done . . .)

But yes - this write so mimics the crazy thoughts that invade my brain daily
(its getting crowded in there too)

amazing write and aching at that
(I swear to you - I almost bought that
EXACT print up there yesterday - freaked me out when I clicked on and you know why I didnt?  I love the entire print but she looks so so sad . . . )

Julie,
thank you for your reply. That is so true.
You are the second one that's said what the name of that painting is. I found it at
Webshots. What's the story behind it?
I thought that she looked really sad.
Thanks.

Hello Little One
I missed you, too!! I'm glad you're back!
I missed your poems and your replies, too. I
always know that you'll click on my poems
and leave a reply for me.

Yeah, the old head gets kinda filled up
sometimes, doesn't it? I'm really looking
forward to all these good memories we're making
to push all the bad out.

And the picture...you're the third one
that's mentioned knowing about it. Isn't
that a coincident?  Like I said, it
was at Webshots, and I used it because she
looks so very sad to me, too.

Hugs to you, Little One,
Ethel
