A street of the city, the row houses are a mix of heavily curtain and boarded up windows, and doorway are a couple of stairs up, Three street lights are there, but only the lamp in the center is fully lit.
Enter Stage left dark dressed man leaning heavily on a black cane.

Dark my friend, even the city aids you,
By disrepair they help keep me from view,
As I walk the edge of a broken street
On the side of crumbled and cracked concrete.

I hear you rumble deep in clouding sky
Sounding so near, so close, and yet so high,
As in my attempt to travel so far,
Covering over my hope guiding star.

Will you strobe me with your lighting flashes
As the cool night and day’s heat now clashes,
Will with curtains of rain I be now drenched
Move in distain with pain my body clenched.

Now spying lying alone on the ground
A coin, a penny lost and now I’ve found,
Bending to retrieve despite growing pain
Least its luck be washed off by coming rain.

As it rests in my hand nearly worthless
I straighten receiving rain in darkness,
The year it was minted, nineteen eighty
Reminds of a time, a place, a lady.

Wet my hair, my face, and my soul cold rain
Flood across cheeks that flowing tears won’t stain,
I have no need to search for a shelter,
I can uses the tears of this dark weather.

I’ll journey onward with no direction
Travel the cruel trail with no emotion,
So goes “see a penny and pick it up”
My memories will always curse my luck.

Exit Stage Right, midst the downpour and occasional flashes

Don't you feel just a  little excitement when on the edge of a storm...

Excellent writing (and I don't tell you that often enough)

I have the incredible urge to dry myself off and wrap myself in a large, cozy towel! As I have mentioned before, dear raconteur, you take me with you on these forays into the gloom and doom--and I learn something every time.

Warm, cozy hugs,
EA

Thank you, Nakdthoughts,
The cusp of things always hold the excitement
You are very kind with your praise
To this humble word shuffler

Thank you, Earth Angel
I’m pleased you enjoy my efforts at story telling
