JUST BEYOND TOMORROW

I see an island just beyond tomorrow
where dreams have a way of coming true,
but have missed the boat so many times,
and have never learned to swim,
so I stand alone in the harshness of reality
where breathing is an effort,
where one tries not to awaken the day,
where tomorrow is the same as yesterday –
and today - is just out of reach.

Caution has taught me to step aside,
to bypass the enticement of smiling faces
where soul-stealing hidden agendas abound,
and a word is not a word,
but manipulative cohersion.

Love wove it’s way through heart and soul
deftly displacing thought and reason,
then crushed the breath from life and hope,
it’s laughter giving way to dark despair.

Yet somewhere on the horizon, an island looms,
the sun rises each morning,
ghostly memories brighten thoughts,
Jesus smiles down from the Cross
His love shimmering in every heart,
and people hold hands,
touch with the senses,
laugh all the time,
despair is unknown.

I see such an island beyond tomorrow
where dreams have a way of coming true,
but have missed the boat so many times,
and have never learned to swim,
so I stand alone in the harshness of reality
where breathing is an effort,
where one tries not to awaken the day,
where tomorrow is the same as yesterday –
and today -
Is just out of reach.

As I started my reading, I found myself deeper and deeper into the verse.  I didn't let a word escape my grasp.  Then somebody interrupted me with an Instant Message.  That stinks.  But here goes...you are reaching for just beyond tomorrow. Your reach, I think, should be in the moment.  The reach should still extend to smiling faces...for not all are betrayers of their smile.  Oh, I grant you there are many fakers out there, but keep reaching anyway.  Your heart will know when you've come upon a true heart smiling at you.

I hope this makes sense.  I get interrupted too often...IMs, children, and life.  Sometimes, I wish I could just plant myself at my computer and become immersed in verse. So much wisdom here, so many interruptions in my living room.

I did love this piece.  My heart hooked up with your words.  I know of what you speak.

Excellent, excellent poem! This one touched my heart. So often it seems like I, too, havemissed the boat to the land of dreams. But someday - just beyond tomorrow, I know I will find that land.

James, this is a beautiful poem. This
island sounds like a beautiful place, too.
I do believe a place does exist similar to
your island dream.

(big hugggssssssss) I do believe a certain place does indeed exist, but today has to be within reach in order to make the vision more clear as you must reach for the now! (sigh) Believe in what you can do now and you just may sojourn to this special place, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet James, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
