Kneading

It is this nagging pain
I awake with each morning.
Somewhere deep, from the base of my head
radiating to the shoulders,
a constant reminder of my worrying
too much.

It never leaves me till mid afternoon,
when my day is half over
and my "to do" list
is impossible to complete.

I miss those hands
that could ease the strain,
that could knead me, lulling me
into another world, where I have control
and all suffocation stops.

There is a "wild" in me,
that needs to be released,
and those secret places
that struggle for "touch."

A confused state, when reality overwhelms
and I am at the mercy of sensations,
always waiting for the unexpected,
afraid of my longings and that I am
spreading myself too thin.

The weather fits me today,
wrapping me in its damp,
dressing me in its gray,
disobeying my want to breathe warmth
and feel it on my skin.

I sit here, waiting for the pain to ease,
for my heart to pump harder
to stop my stumbling thoughts,
and disguise myself in window-dressing,
so those close to me, will not know
the emptiness I feel inside.

M

Mornings do seem the worst and this spring that refuses to stay for more than a day or two!!!!  Can relate Maureen...

I know, I had all these plans and once again I can't accomplish them outside. And my body, at this age, tends to wear the weather.

Thank you, Duncan for your response.
