Eyes on the Horizon

It’s not a view I like to share -
selfishly, I claim this skyline as my own,
although truthfully,
it has owned me since that first summer
when we sculpted ourselves into sea nymphs,
arching from waves to twist shell-spun tendrils
from seaweed locks,
leaving damp, sandy impressions
for salivating boys to covet.

We were cool as the sea.

Now, the horizon watches as it always has
from its slice between earth and sky,
leaving us with brief insights, green flashes -
those rare summer sunsets when eyes suspend reason.

Here, two of my friends have already gone,
keepers of the place
where nothing escapes.

Another, that is wistful without the rue.

A lovely portrait of these sea-nymphs, then and now.

Corinne~ This is fascinating... It amazes me how you capture an array of visuals and emotions all at one time  To me, that is not so much poetry in motion, it's near perfect!

Corrine, this is so beautiful.
I especially liked this verse.....

The horizon watches, as it always has,
from that measureless slice between earth and sky,
a wise circle that grins a green flash
in those rare summer sunsets
when the eyes suspend reason.

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Ethel

What a lovely picture of friends them and now, and I can so relate to this poem having lost friends myself lately.  I truly enjoyed this piece.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Corinne, this is so very heartfelt, sweet friend, I too have friends that are long gone now and still I miss them deeply and arrange all the sea shells and marbles they left in my heart on the shores! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
