I Wonder

When I no longer have the will
or strength to carry on
I wonder if the world will even
know that I am gone?

I wonder if I’ll leave my mark
like footprints in the sand?
Or if I’m just forgotten
like some far off distant land?

I wonder if they’ll recollect
old memories from the past?
I wonder if they’ll wish to leave
or make the moment last?

I wonder if my ashes help to
make the flowers bloom?
I wonder if my soul exudes
a spicy sweet perfume?

I wonder when the blossoms
fade and start to draw within
They start to wither and become
dried petals in the wind

That drift along a gentle sigh that
ruffles through the trees
Making tears stream down your
face, cause you want to believe

The feeling in your heart that tells
you I’m there by your side
I’m blowing gently on your face
to dry the tears you cried

And when you feel your chest get
tight, and find it hard to breathe
It’s cause my arms are wrapped
around you giving you a squeeze

I’ve had so many days along my
path, when life was good
I also had some mountains I
couldn’t cross that others could

I wish that I could tell you
that I tried my very best
But that is something better
left for other’s to attest

I wonder if somebody saw
the side I always hid?
I wonder if someone was glad
for something that I did?

I wonder if somebody found
the goodness that I lost?
I wonder if the sins I made
came at too high a cost?

I wonder if the memories that we
made are all erased?
I wonder if each word we said
is drifting out in space?

I wonder if the tears we cried
helped make the oceans blue?
I wonder if we brought some joy
to those we never knew?

I wonder if we see a light
that helps us find the way?
I wonder if you close your eyes
your spirit then can stay?

And so I bid you all adieu
and wish you fond farewell
Thanks for always lifting me
each time my spirit fell

I hope that you can always deal
with those cards that your dealt
And that the ripples from a drop
far off can still be felt

And if you close your eyes at night
and see me in your dreams
Please know that finally I’m at peace
as hard as that may seem

my favorite lines, but I enjoyed the ease of flow and the soft, wonderful thoughts...

I really enjoyed this poem. It's quite thought-provoking (with all the 'I wonders') which I find extremely attractive in a poem. The rhyme doesn't seem at all forced, and the rhythm flows smoothly.

Well done

Take care

Zaynab

Leave me to live and I live in pain
Leave me no love and I live in vain

I have wondered too...I wish I can answer your questions.  We may never know how we impact others' lives.  We simply do our best to help our brothers and sisters through their journey.  Our answers may lie with God, and we will be clued in when our journey here is finished and we make our way to our eternal home.  I like to think we all live on in the way He intended, that is if we fulfill His mission for our lives.

My dear, your written words will certainly live on, inspiring thought and bringing wisdom to all.  Perhaps this is the legacy you will leave those who come after you.

I am so glad I found your writing.  I will be seeking your wisdom and beauty henceforth.

This does indeed, read like a prayer.
Each verse could stand alone on it's own
and yet it flows both outward and inwardly.
Gives me pause to wonder of my life and times and all the beauty it beholds.

Really nice writing Richy.

Richy...perhaps you have written your own memorial poem.  It is beautiful and I think universal in thought and feelings that we all have.

Zaynab, I’m glad the poem provoked some thought... it is something I think many have thought about at one time or another...

Thank you for the nice reply! Hey we both started this group within a day of each other...

Dear Patricia, once again I am floored by your comments!  Are you sure your replying to the right poem...lol...

Boy I wish I could tell you I could live up to even a smidgeon of such praise...

But alas, we can always “wish not to seem, but to be, the best“

Hey that wasn’t bad was it?   Too bad I didn’t write it... lol       Thanks for the help Aeschylus...

Patricia, your generosity is exceeded only by your gracefulness...

And I’m all the better for knowing thee...

Blessings,

Richy

Richy,

Yes, I do think we've all done this wondering. For you to bring these questions all together in one poem helps me in knowing others wonder, too.  It does remind there are things which I need to do....not necessarily believing it will make a difference after I am gone but will make me feel better, I knowing  I did my best...especially in helping others in the hundreds of ways we can each day.....even the gift of a genuine smile can make a big difference to one who has none. and the list goes on and on....

Hugs, Pat

Hello Richard

I am in awe at this exquisite piece of writing and didn't want it to end.  Your words were very inspiring.

"The source of love is deep in us
and we can help others
realise a lot of happiness.
One word, one action,
one thought, can reduce
another person's suffering
and bring that person joy"

Take care......Sue

Richard, this is such a beautiful poem. I had  a hard time picking out a favorite
verse, because they are all so wonderful.
This part especially touched me, though...

I wonder if the tears we cried
helped make the oceans blue?
I wonder if we brought some joy
to those we never knew?

I'm really enjoying your poetry, Sir.
Hugs,
Ethel

Thanks for the great reply Pat...

By gosh, I think I hit on one that many can relate to...

You know what they say, “throw enough cow dung against the barn and a chunk or three is liable to stick now and again...”

sorry...lol

It’s late, and I’m getting a little slappy I think...

can’t sleep...

Oh, and one more th....     ZZZZzzzZZZZzzzzzzz....

lol

Hello Sue, really, you didn’t want it to end???  Well that’s a first...lol

My problem is knowing when to stop... writing that is...

Sue, your comments were so sincere, I was really touched!

Thank you sooo much...

You take care too...

I hope we meet again, soon...

Hi Ethel, that’s funny that you picked that one stanza... because I just took out a couple verses the other day, that just weren’t quite tickling my fancy that day and added that one and another or two...

Funny huh?  Next week, it might have some more changes...

I was thinking the other day, how with writing, it is one creative endeavor that you can totally change, so easily, at any whim, you so desire...

Depending of course, on which way the wind is blowing...

Thanks again, Ethel

littlewing, that is one of the more meaningful things anyone has ever said to me about something I have written!

Man I love creating!!!!!!!!

I’m sure there are much more important and noble ways to be appreciated...

But, I’m not a doctor... and I can’t dance...

Well, OK... I can dance a little, when I got something to dance about...

But...

Where else can I get such good feelings from so many, for so little?

Dang! Sometimes, it’s just nice to be alive!

Ah, the ever present questions
of whether someone will know
if we were ever here...

with writing like this,
and a presence such as you have shown
us so far...

I have a feeling
the answer will be
yes.

Wow!! I love this, it's so smooooooth and searching. The images used for the "I wonder"s were very evocative. (How many times I can vote for one poem? )
