A hundred to one

by Matt Keach

A hundred vices in a line, which one do I choose?
A hundred cryptic gateways, each one a deadly ruse
A hundred anxious matchsticks, which one will strike a fuse?
A hundred shattered principles, each one is doomed to lose

The most subtle power, can be the worst
It feeds off of ignorance at first,
it slithers through the soul, then pounces on the chest
then subdues it's host and makes itself a nest

One vice I've chosen, constricting very tight
One gateway I've entered, deprived me of all might
One match has been struck, blinded well my sight
One principle shattered, not worth it for tonight.

Welcome to Passions.
Oh my, one hundred and you have only done one? Good luck! I enjoyed reading this ONE.
Now, where are the other 99?

It's a game of chance, and the risk we take.   We could very well be that one in hundred...opposed to hundred to one.
It's the luck of the draw, a roll of the dice, and there's much to be said for knowing when to fold em.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem~

thank you for all of your comments, I appreciate them. I'm glad there is a place like this on the net because it makes me want to continue writing, whereas normally id have no one to share my stuff with... and about 9/10 of the poems ive read on this forum by other authors have been funny, enlightening and/or fascinating. Im happy to be a member of this community.
