Reality makes entrance and exits the stage.
No time for a bow before last curtain call.
Finish this closing act in silence and rage
And anxiously await the final curtain to fall.

Before me an audience of one cries out for more,
Put on the usual mask and conceal your true soul.
Don the costumes of deceit you have put on before.
Forget years of playing the part have taken a toll.

Exhausted from reenacting the familiar, old scene.
My repertoire is empty with nothing left to give.
The audience asks selfishly what does it all mean?
My soul exclaims boldly, it means I again live.

Pat,

I have read this several times. Very deep. Very powerful in it's seeming simplicity.  To be used up and empty, and know it we move move off stage, as acceptance and surrender take hold.. alas we are reborn...to live again, for the first time, perhaps...

That is how I view this, according to my own life experiences...

Heart hugs to you along the way of growth and renewal and life, Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

Reality truly is an indulgence to the soul.
Wonderfully drawn images.  Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Patricia,
I enjoyed this poem, but I am sorry to say, I may not have comprehended it completely

"Before me an audience of one cries out for more,
Put on the usual mask and conceal your true soul.
Don the costumes of deceit you have put on before.
Forget years of playing the part have taken a toll."  -Sorry, but I'm not sure what you meant by this part right here. Especially the second line. What? Conceal your true soul from who? Other people? Why? Why does anybody do this? Oh yes I would imagine it would take a toll, a heavy toll.
Oh the benefits of hiding self make no sense to me.

This is a great poem, it made me think. And frankly, the thought that so many people do this [and I know many do, I'm not naive] frightens me.
