I remember my first glimpse of you, Jamie
Such a strong body and handsome face
You gave me a smile and with it, I knew
At your side would always be my place.

As soon as propriety allowed us
I answered your question with fervent yes
We scarcely owned a thing other than dreams
But both of us knew we were richly blessed.

We sailed cross the sea from our families
And as I bid them a loving farewell
I knew we’d likely not see them again
But I’d have followed you into hell.

Our chosen land gave generously
To those who were willing to work
All through eternal backbreaking hours
You never once faltered, never shirked.

I remember how gentle your hands were
As you eased Jacob into this world
And the look on your face as our Katie’s hair
Around your fingertips softly curled.

Just when it seemed we had everything
You died suddenly, left me behind
After so many years of our waiting
It won’t be long now, sweet love of mine.

I saw the doctor wearing a sad look
But no one will see me shedding tears
I’ve carried on best as I could, but
I’ve missed you so much all these years

Both our son and our daughter
Are grown with their own families
They’re instilled with values we taught them
I know you’d be proud and well pleased.

Knowing they are admirable adults
Possessed of your looks and your charms
I embrace these last moments of mourning
Before I’m held once again in your arms

Ah, Jamie, I feel your hands touch me!
And as shadows gather for my leaving
Your face shines with glorious welcome
I’m finally done with this grieving.

In the cemetery as mourners cry
A pair of doves soars into the sky.

But I’d have followed you into hell.
============================

OH damn..................
this WHOLE POEM .........
that ending..............
OH DAMN ................................

a speechless and very very impressed moth was here

Ocean wrapped around the sun
Sky fell down & pulled us in
stole away my oxygen
left me breathless in the blue
left me breathless there with you.

This read like a movie...

sad, but kind of hopeful and not really...

Just a testimony of life being what it is.

Absolutely amazing writing
sweet Southern lady. Each poem of yours I read
amazes me even more....and then to read in your replies
that it was only imagination......goodness. Now, that's a good writer that can make readers
think it's real, when it's not.

And, dear friend, i feel like the others,
you definitely
don't give us enough of thses reading pleasures
of yours. You are such a great writer.

Oh, and Toe?  Thank you, dear friend, for giving
her the nudge.

Heart hugs to both of ya'll,
Ethel

JM: You mean I'm contagious? *G* Even through cyberspace??? LOL Thank you for finding it worthy of a home in your library. *S*

Marge: That's one of my favorite verses... Thank you very much, dear friend. *S*

garysgirl: You make me blush... but it's sheer pleasure. *S* The phrase "these last moments of mourning" knocked on my mind for attention... and seemed to have a story to tell. *S* Thank you ever so much for receiving it so kindly. *S*

How did I miss this? My only excuse is that I was on vacation....and my loss, because it speaks of things I've experienced, as well as things I dread.

At your side would always be my place."

....and this is exactly how it happened for me.....

It is truly heart felt Ruth, you honor your friend very well in this write and I'm sure that Jamie knows how much you cared. It's difficult losing your best friend to things that you can't control but you do what you can to make them feel comfortable and give them your being which I can see that you did and still do. Thank you for sharing this Ruth, your work is wonderful!
