New Year's Prayer For The Children

Battered, bruised and motionless
She lays on sheets of white
Tiny, frail, just two years old
She fights for life tonight

It’s New Years Eve, folks celebrate
It's chaos on the screens
Their laughter quite a contrast from
The rhythmic life machines

My hands they touch her body small
My eyes they fill with tears
As I wonder how this child’s own mom
Could steal away life’s years

Another seizure racks her limbs
Gauze wraps her tiny head
The word arrives, I prayed would not
“There’s no hope, she is brain dead”

At Twelve O’ one, the plug is pulled
She takes her final breath
A new year’s here and nothing's changed
With yet another child’s death

When will the senseless slaying stop
Of children meek and mild?
Who will speak when they are gone?
Shall we forget this child?

Their future’s being stole away
With war, abuse and crime
Oh Lord, please let the killing stop
Let this be the final time

I pull her lifeless body close
To pray a simple prayer
That children can be children
And no longer live in fear

~ Ruth

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

With this crutch, its old age and wisdom, it whispers no ... this will be the last.

Hoot_owl_rn....

Must be incredibly difficult to do this for a living. We hear it in the news casts, and don't see it up close and personal.

Heartbreaking, as are those children who don't die, but suffer ongoing neglect and abuse.

you've given us a better idea....but always feel so helpless in stopping it. Can only work in our own backyard, so to speak...and report it, though often that doesn't seem to help either, until the child is gone....

very sad....

Happy New Year to you.

Warm regards, Pat
