Butterflies of Winter

Butterfly snowflakes from morning’s gray sky
Tumbling, twisting and sweeping on by
Thin crocheted wings spun of delicate white
Lace carved by air into icy delight

Never to pause by my window to greet
A watcher of nature and wind driven sleet
Butterfly snowflakes will melt into dew
When spring brings me butterfly petals of blue

They bloom in my garden and long to embrace
The powdery wings of a butterfly’s lace
Fluttering monarch of yellow and red
Tumbling, twisting to soft petal bed

In calm she sits still for my soul to rejoice
At soft waving wings from a bloom with no voice
But whistling winds of the winter now blow
And briskly they carry the beautiful snow

Learn from the monarch, my white butterflies
Pause by my window and fill up my eyes

Liz, this is just spectacular. Definitely one of my all time favorites of yours.

Liz? I have never actually seen a snowflake. A friend of mine tried to describe it to me, but I couldn't picture it with the grace that I just saw through your words. I thank you much, lady.

You have penned a masterpiece..this is exquisite Liz..your gift of imagery is matched by your cadence...stunning write dear poetess..
Happy New Year Lady Santos.

Will the wind remember the names it has blown in the past?
With this crutch, its old age and wisdom, it whispers no ... this will be the last.
