Year- end brings the cleaning of closets, emptying clutter
Re-stocking of valuable things
Tying ribbons ‘round crimson lakes, sun upon the winter snow
Pruning the soul’s golden wings
Lifting these glasses to humble the wind, fire through desert,
Shifting destiny rings

Year-end gives pure new adventures, thrills once remembered
Wistfully trilling it clings
Basting the breath of forgotten, awakening sunsets renewed
Deeper in satiny sings
Gallantly riding the fever, brilliant in filigree gold
Re-shaping in wandering stings

And yet,
What could be said may be the pale portal, a harmony off key,
The latch-less lock…
Renewed the reviewing a year ending brings

Kathleen, I enjoyed reading your poem. A lot of wisdom about year's ending....

Nothing like breaking out all the cleaning
gear,  digging all the popcorn out from
under the couch....and so many other year
end events...  Latchless lock?  I like
that phrase...

I love the way you put this. The last stanza is exceptional.

I want to write like you do

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

I've been doing all these things you mention.....of course I just moved, but  every item thrown away held memories. Some not so good....so I was glad to rid myself.
Then there was those few kept for arhieve *S*

Very well written!!!!....Happy New Year to you.

i liked the sentiments you expressed, but personally,i let it all fly by and dont differentiate dec. 3l from jan l, because by this age in time, i ve come to realize, its all bs. this manmade line to distinguish one year from the next..
but i liked the poem, it was well thought out
