~* One Bittersweet Tear *~
© Mysteria 28/12/2002

How ironic.
The call came to collect you
on her birthday.
This time it won’t pass
as so many years did before
without candles or songs
for today she has her gift.
I can’t help but wonder
when will peace come to my soul?

That torturing question surfaces
like sickening bile in my throat
causing a burning caustic lump
that sizzles in want of answers.
Was I a token gift to them both?
Some part of a master plan,
some glue to fix what went array?
Was it a cruel joke played
creating a cold game of life
acted out for over half a century
by three unwilling victims?

One bittersweet tear escapes
and burns down my cheek
in sync with the rise and fall
of a burdened chest,
so labored by circumstances.
I can barely house the heart
of a lifetime of sadness.
My brow is soaking wet
from wringing my mind
out with questions of my past.
My body is so raw for answers,
but not a single drop of relief
is expelled but that one tear.

Today cradling his ashes in my arms,
like I once held hers,
I wonder if either of them
ever held me as tenderly.
I think that surely neither of them
is as cold as my heart is this day,
as another bittersweet tear
gently rolls down my cheek.

As a tear rolls down my cheeks I feel the words of your poem. I return to feel the thoughts and feelings you express so well...wonderful.

Dear Sharon

There is much more than one tear in this poem...I hear a scream, a child, a song, and many questions, and yes love, I hear love.  I wish I could give you this really...

Jesus Sharon! Like a long distance runner we hit the "wall", and it hurts. Some things we can't run from. They collect us as patient as a cold blooded amphibian awaits it's catch. We, the warm blooded stand no chance and only our humanity will see us through. You, a good person rise above. You will.

Oh Sharon. If I could race through the phonelines to give you a hug right now, I surely would. A very powerful piece of your heart and mind has been captured through this single tear. Take care sweet friend.

Best wishes and many hugs to you,
/Kit

Sharon
Abuse is one of the strongest forms of rejection, and rejection is the worst kind of pain. you have left your own trail of tears over the years, and despite the bitter sorrow in this poem, I must say that the release of your feelings has brought out the best in your writing, which has left a trail of tesrs on my keyboard. Because I love you as a dear friend, your words touch me even deeper. I hope you will refer back to a poem I e-mailed to you when I knew of your father's death. I think you may have missed it. I already knew what you were feeling.
Much love
Liz

With each tap of key
you underscored the answers
to the questions,
long gone unanswered...

some parents aren't meant to
be in control of a young
life...

but in the lessons learned,
through the trial of error
perceived,

you grew into such a state
of womanhood
and became one of the better
mothers
your child would ever know.

My heart and hugs are with you...

I won't say who sent this to me, but I also wish him the peace one day that his words brought me this morning. So, in part it went...
quote:
May God have mercy on us all. I know it was difficult but you are indeed above their actions with your own. Weird how the past won't stay down.

The past is an ongoing trigger to those that have been abused and they can go one of two ways, that is a choice.

There are those of us who chose to live as healthy a life as we could to see our children were indeed loved, and cared for in spite of our abuse.  I think those folks were meant to guide the young to do the same and not repeat the cycle.  I know one thing we sure can see abuse in front of us, so here is how:

Look for it!  It is in their eyes, you can see it living there. Ask about it, and make sure you don't just pass a child by, as they have been threatened not to speak and have no voice, but they can nod...that is what saved me once when I was very little, a simple nod.  If it is someone else's child you can not be arrested for asking questions, and if it is your child, talk to him/her - and remember most abuse is right in your own home please.  Thank you all for reading this.

I liked Muys comment and it made me smile - yes Muys, this sure is a wonderful poem before the end of the year.  Today truly is the beginning of the rest of my life!  Thank you all for reading this.

May a handshake, smile, kiss or a hug be the best present you give or receive this year.

Thank you for reading this as I wrote it right in the submission area, and posted it.  I had to.  Later, I came across that picture that was exactly the way I felt and what I wanted to project.  This was a most urgent purge as it did not stop until it was done and posted just as it is here, and these ones feel the best for me when expelled.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sharon, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, I know of this hurt so much and every new years eve I get kind of overemotional because that Pinocchio song "When You Wish..." comes to my mind and how I want so much to have Joanna and live my dreams for children! (big hugggsssssss) I send angel hugs your way, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

This is one of the strongest and most significant poems you've ever written, Sharon - I have no doubt of it - You put every ounce of yourself into it...

Remember one very important thing.  Our experiences define us.  They mold our lives and our futures.  Your personal experiences have given you the wisdom to become the loving and caring person that you are.  You give to others each and every day of your life.  Perhaps you're making up for losses in the past, but you're doing it all the same.  You're an amazing lady who helps those in need - Don't ever change...

Noah I hope your dream comes true sooner than you think it will - you deserve that in your young life.

Nan - that is the nicest thing you have ever said to me you know that right?  By the way as long as I will be needed I will be there clicking my heels.
