The battle nigh as pawns arrange
upon the field of black and white.
Where pieces fall in stark derange
from bishop bold to gallant knight

A wish does come upon the lips
of maiden fair before the joust.
Please kind sir, with fingertips
do softly move, do not arouse.

His soft of heart, and gallant mind
plied oh so well by tender word.
As pieces fell, his moves now blind
her cries of joy were well now heard.

A pawn was moved to take the queen
in sudden swift and silent thrust.
Her move unseen, a pawn careened
away from her in gamely lust.

The match did last into the night
between the dusk and darkened skies.
As teases gained a grinning sight
a wink and twink from gazing eyes.

A man, a friend, a valiant foe
into the hours till his defeat.
And then to say adieu, I go..
A farewell smile, the game complete...

Well now, this was very interesting...what a great DREAM...
As opponents, it takes a special kind of fortitude and grit to raise the game to win / win.  Hope all your games are win / win Mag.   To the victor...

LOL,  I enjoyed this look at the game.
Careening pawns...I've seen this scene before.

Me thinks that there is much to this game.
Excellent match of poetic verbage
I love the depth...
