There are so many great traditions of this special day
Tender things and silly gestures that have passed our way.
One can only be amazed at things that lovers do..
Let's take a little look through history and pick out a few.

In the Middle Ages, maidens also drew out names
And were allowed to pick out batchelors for their lovers games.
They pinned the names there on their sleeves and left them there for days
Thus, "wearing your heart on your sleeve" became a common phrase.

In England, children dressed as adults, went from door to door
Singing of St. Valentine, collecting coins and more......
"Good morning to you, valentine
Curl your locks as I do mine
Two before and three behind
Good morning to you, valentine."

In Wales, they traded wooden love spoons to their lover fair
Engraved with hearts and keys and keyholes showing that they care.
When maids received a spoon with keys engraved into the bowl
It meant that "you unlock my heart" with marriage as its goal.

In the early 1700's, to America it came
And some will say the country has not ever been the same!
Now Canada, Mexico, France, Australia, U.S. and U.K.
All recognize this holiday that's known as Lovers Day.

So, all you Passion poets, please enjoy this special day.
It's rich in deep tradition and there was a price to pay.
Use this day to let someone know your love and friendship's true
And, as for me, I wish the best to every one of you!

Hey 'Deer!  Guess what???
I received a wooden love spoon for Christmas from Wales!
This is poetry at it's finest!

’Deer dearest heart there is always a joy and a certain frisson of anticipation when I read your wonderful poems. You combine exquisite skill with perfect flow do I love this, you have to know I really do. Outstandingly well written and beautifully constructed this is absolutely fabulous I love it utterly utterly utterly. I know it’s a re-post but it truly is a fabulous poem and always you excel

In dreams I float where sighs are sweet
To places where true hearts can meet
Soft whispers speak of loving care
And love lives on forever there
Time has no meaning in that place
There is no hurry, no cause to race
All that is, is, it doesn’t fade away
It lasts forever until the close of play
Days never end there is no night
Hearts live bathed in passion’s light
The softest breeze carries love’s touch
Perfumed with delight of such
In dreams I go to float forever free
Carried by the touch of love’s beauty

Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds
but I can face the future with courage brave and bold

(smiles) I have heard all about the diffusion of the holiday into other cultures, sweet friend, it is sad to see the holiday lose so much of its meaning yet behind all the wrapping paper the true meaning is still in existence! (big hugggssssss) This is marvelous, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Yassee Ron?...Balladeer confides in me alot....personal things and such...and he was telling me about how his mate had cut him down to once a month...but she's cut some of his friends off all together...and, I guess, being in the "Spirit" of Valentine's Day...I just feel sorry for him....How are you and that good looking cousin of your's doing?

Well thanks for asking! Seems her mother and my dad broke up....so we aren't related anymore. I tried to get pops to change his mind and not break it off, but he mumbled something about Deer and shuffled off with a mean look in his eyes..

When she found out her Mom and my Pops had broke up, she gave me a call and broke it off with me. Said since we wasn't related..she couldn't take me seriously anywmore.. or was it she couldn't take me....seriously... any way.... nice of you to ask

Those Welsh and English folks. Imagine the Welsh being more influential, most of us (or U.S. ) would now be speaking Welsh.

It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency.

Sweet Balladeer, I thank you for
the history of this special day
You've told it in your charming style
and now I've just one thing to say

I wish for you a heart of joy
That happiness will come your way
May every day be filled with love
And feel just like Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, 'Deer.
Love and hugs,
~Vicky

Ron, I had nothing to do with it. I barely laid a hoof on her

Toe, thanks for all your well-wishes and I'm sending a special cupid just for you...
