Winds rush through coats thin
Chilling blood as it whitens skin
Onward goes trudging

Winds makes tears of ice
Frozen on cheeks colorless
Onward goes trudging
Stumbling on numbing feet twice
Rises to move  relentless.

The door blocks the winds
And to the floor body bends,
Winter journey ends.

She rushes to sound,
From sleep in her warm blankets,
Winter journey ends
As she wraps blankets around
And beside him brandy set.

Snow’s not abating
Spring is still long for waiting
But warmth is sating.

Gloom

This was a nice vision.  I remember those oh so cold winter days.  Thats why I live in Florida now.

Good morning, Professor!

I was already feeling the cold before I started reading your poem! Then my teeth began to chatter as I read on! Thankfully you warmed me up near the end with the brandy which has put the pink back into my cheeks!

Valentine hugs,

EA

Professor,

I like this. Some will go to any length to get/find  home.

Curious why you repeated the line:

"Winter journey ends". For her, too?

Chilling and warming. Enjoyed, Pat

Prof, even though it's a bit nippy here in Florida, the sun is shining brightly and I don't think Spring is too far away....

Thank you, All of you,
I am pleased so many have enjoyed these words.
The search for warmth, the determined journey for it.
R2Y : the repeat of line is a format thing
~ this was actually going to be extended where the 3 line of the next 5 line stanza
~ would have been “But warmth is sating”
~ but instead I ended it with the arrival
