Once Upon A Child,
The world was freed from sin,
In a lowly stable,
Born in Bethlehem.

This Child was born of Mary,
Conceived only from God's breath,
His life was so miraculous,
Even in his death.

He gave sight unto the blinded,
Fed the hungry-clothed the poor,
Gave wisdom to simple minded,
Taught us what our lives are for.

I think that's what God intended,
For us to do on Christmas day,
Give of ourselves and spread some joy,
To those in a needing way.

Think of what you have,
And of those that have much less,
Give from your heart this Christmas day,
You'll truly feel blessed.

Remember the true meaning,
Not the gifts all stacked in piles,
The reason there's a Christmas,
There was "Once Upon A Child"

nice... a powerfully worded, back-to-basics honesty about this piece. The last stanza - thoughtful.

Mr. Toe, I love this Southern Gentlemanly side of you, but I also love the witty side of you, too. This is a keeper for me, too.  You told of the   "REASON  FOR  THE  SEASON"  excellently, my friend.

Happy Holidays to you and yours, too, Mr. Toe.

Toe~
I, for one, love when you get all 'mushy and serious'.
This is a gorgeous write and so filled with the true
spirit and meaning of Christmas.
May God bless you too, my friend.
Hugs,

Very lovely poet Toerag. The true meaning of Christmas - why is it we push that aside in our search for the "perfect gift?" That gift cannot be wrapped, for it is within our hearts. holiday hugs, Chris

Although I am not a Christian, I enjoy Christmas, which was in fact a Pagan Festival, that in later years the Christians moved the celebration of Christs birthday to.
As has been voiced throughout the replies, what a pity the spirit of the Christmas Festival cannot be extended to the other 364 days of the year, by all on this ever shrinking planet.
May your God Bless you and yours, and may you enjoy health, wealth and happiness in the coming new year.
Blessed Be,
John

Well Toe, looks like you've found the true meaning of Christmas. It's a pity that we can't all see it from your kind and talented perspective. If you didn't notice, I've given up being mean and sarcastic to you. It's just not worth it Good job toe!
