Wind came from the south
Bringing with it a hint of desert
Tempered over prairie grass
Until it only warmed.

I wandered back roads
Jostle bounced over ruts
From wetter times now archived
In solid form and thoughts turned
As they often do
To
You

Our
Late Winter searches for
The first green blade
Or opened flower
Heralding an end
To drifting.

We dreamed easy then
Slipping into silences
That were punctuated with lips
And ended in exclamations
As commas were placed on skin
That composed pages
Of passion

But the wind shifted North,
And that chapter was lost
In a gale that rent words
Into syllables

Scattering unspoken

Lost on late winter fields
To lay fallow

as ash
from long ago

An intriguing journey for the reader through a tale of unrequited love presented per medium of powerful and passionate images in appropriately formatted and beckoning rhythms of free verse. I enjoyed the journey on an intellectual level as well as that of tne emotional level demanded by this fine piece of writing.

My Chinese New Year's resolution is to accept your repeated statement, that you are not a poet.  That said...
Damn, I wish I wasn't a poet!

Ron,

Whoa! I was going to say the same thing Patrick did.....smiling here, were I able to write so eloquently, and though I have my moments, this isn't one of them;     that is definitely is a rich reply!
The only true 'emotional' words being in the title and you carried that theme ~subtly~ to the end....enjoyed!

and you are a poets poet ...

the personification, analogy and tie ins of emotion and poetry made this bittersweet beauty a poets poem!

Ron...I'm not smart enough to say what Patrik did either...but still enjoy how you  bring nature's way into your personal way.  Well done as always, friend!

Cpat Hair.. your poem almost describes the mood of the day for me. Are you not referring to the warm front of air from the south that we are currently experiencing? Hey man i dont miss it.

Hate to single out words when all of them are wonderful, but I just love the masterful imagery of these

Well, Capt. Ron, I guess I'm not smart enough to reply the way others did, either....so, I'll just say, (in my simple little ole way), that I love reading your poetry, and this one was no exception.

You already know I appreciate the metaphor of the title...but this?

"We dreamed easy then
Slipping into silences
That were punctuated with lips
And ended in exclamations

That composed pages
Of passion"

Beautiful.

Just beautiful.
