In Exchange

I shoveled again, more of the same
and buttoned up tight from the wind.
He from across the street came by,
brushed off my car with a grin.

There was a catch, as he cleared his throat.
"Computer trouble", said he.
Would I download some files onto his disk?
I said sure, watching eyes watching me.

I completed the task, returning his disk
as he waited outside my door.
"You're a darling", he said, "do you know?"
I replied I've been told that before.

It's funny how long it has been since I've heard
those words that were given to me,
in exchange for a favor, and I smiled to myself,
A "darling", I've come to be.

I'm amazed how you can take a moment in your day and write the nicest rhyme about it.

Hugs to you 'darling' girl~

Lori, thanks, well it was the nicest thing to be said to me in ages...and I wanted to take advantage of the moment.

It was probably a passing moment never to happen again..
thank you

i'm agreeing with blues serenade, i love the way you described how a seemingly normal task ended up meaning something to you. a darling? look at your photo, youre a fox! how could he resist calling u a darling, at the very least.
lots of love gemma xxxxxxxxx

learning each day, for you and i, our paths have met, i've already learnt that you are love.

Maureen~
You've told this story beautifully,
and you've got me smiling from ear to ear.
Hugs to you,

Dixie, thanks...some may disagree with that.

gemma, that's funny. I appreciate the comments but if you knew this neighbor it had nothing to do with my looks...he drinks so much all he probably sees is a blur But it was sweet of him and made me smile even if only inwardly.

Karen, I shovel a lot of that (and it isn't necessarily snow) You should hear what I say with every throw of the shovel...it definitely  releases my frustrations

Vicky, yes it made me smile too and I will take what I can get when it comes to smiles.
