Listen for the silence,
But I heard the city noise,
Calmly with patience
Waiting for the din to break
Yet it continues.
Sirens scream into the dark,
Run down avenues
A parade of flashing noise.
No quiet defense
To their meaning of terror,
Pillows are no barrier.

I hate the sound of sirens. Conjures up all kinds of thoughts, if I let it, depending where I am and who is where.

Sounds like a rough night.  That's why I don't like living in a city, but rather out in the country.   Pleasant dreams!

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

There is nothing worse than a restless, sleepless night. Sirens and barking dogs...grrr. Good write. Chris

Excellent poetry...short, but very poignant.  I especially liked the lines
"No quiet defense
To their meaning of terror,
Pillows are no barrier" --Pillows are indeed no barrier to the horrors of the world.  Thank you for sharing.
