the tour guide rambled on
about planes and bombings
and death tolls and brutalised civilians
and lead characters and more
and expressed pity at
how we couldn't get to
admire the beautiful highlands

I could only be
consumed by a photo untaken
as three grinning children
romantically
emerged before my sight,
out of the fog
