Know Thyself

We’re more than the bodies we live in
We’re neither our good deeds nor sin
Anymore than we are the clothes we wear
Our titles, addresses or style of hair

We are not products of happenstance
Nor victims bound by our circumstance
We’re more than labels and numbers given
We’re souls God created…His dearly loved children

We’re more than spouses or siblings
More than life’s blessings and stings
We’re souls designed for eternal life
Loved and treasured in God’s sight

Our belief directs what we become
Pity all who believe they’re a victim
And all believing they can’t advance
Assured they’re bound by circumstance

We act on the strength of conviction
Be it ‘worthless’ or ‘born for a mission’
We’re free to choose the belief we hold
Which directs and determines life to unfold

It’s not important who may think it odd
That one knows himself as a child of God
It encourages the best they ever can be
With purpose through life, eternally
