"The Greatest Commandment"
sermon title of Dr. Pryor

Mark 12:28-34

Tradition
sacrifice
rules and religious calisthenics
shall they keep us fit
to be called His own?

Do I lift my gold
raise my praise
with chants and rhythms
of rote made phrase?

Will these acts
nourish my soul
prove my love
measure my goal?

Or should I set
a plumb-line by Him
uplift my neighbor
make life a hymn?

When you slip into the mode
of mundane
When the rhythm of your chores
drip and drop like rain
Take a moment to step aside
to gaze at the heavens
and see. . .
beauty

Children come--
bring your joys,
bring your smiles,
bring your ears,
your heart,
your mind.

Lift your eyes
to see the path
the one God
sees for you,
reap His lovely blessings;
praise His glorious Name

sermon titled
"Contradictory Values"
by Dr. Pryor

Out of Her Poverty

she gives out of her poverty
she lives despite her loss
arms that do not move
legs that do not walk

now from the d.a. (devil’s advocate)

what does she have to lose
what can be other than gain
to give her all, her life
when she has no life I'd claim?

Joni Ericson-Tada
a modern-day donor
of the widow’s mite
bathes in the glory
of His wondrous light

a self-acknowledged vase
broken
yet repaired
the scars of her shattering
ever-present to be seen
helping others know
what “being whole”
really means

Dr. Pryor
Mark 13:1-8

Be not led astray
but let your heart burn
for all He’ll convey
and pray you’ll discern

Labor pains grow
they ebb and flow
Ease and strengthen
yet order will come

Peace and eternity’s
dawn will be born.

Inspired by
"What Is Truth"
sermon title by Dr. Pryor
John 18: 33-38

where do you stand
where do the shadows fall
from where does
the illumination come

a discernment of the light
is it from the source
or merely a skewed reflection?

from the sun
or the moon

from the Son
or a goon

is it the True Light
the Light that sets you free

by Whom do you see?

The Plea

forgive me
the depth of each nail
forgive me
the numbered impale

and help me

forgive

me

©November 23, 2003

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
