The Dove

The ark had finally come to rest.
Now Noah knew that he was blessed
And so he dared to open wide
A port, so he could look outside.
He loosed a dove, with gentle hand,
To see if she could find dry land.
He waited then and she returned
And from this act, of course, he learned
The waters of the flood still lay
Upon the earth and all must stay
Within the ark.A week went by.
Once more the dove was sent to fly.
Returning, in her beak she brought
An olive branch, a sign he sought
That water was receding there
And soon he could release each pair.

The last time that he set her free,
She disappeared and he could see
That soon he might remove the seals.
I'm sure he wondered how it feels
To go into a world made new.
Man and beast and families too.
I know all details God thought of,
But I keep thinking of that dove.
Did she receive some special sign
That she was part of His design
And is that why doves strut and coo,
Because they helped God's dream come true?

Thanks for your nice comments.  It's an old story, but I hoped this would be a new twist!

Betty . . . beautiful
this made me smile
I adore Noah's Ark, anything to do with it actually (sad story that it is)
but the "idea"  of 2x2 . . .

The dove was set free,
to spread his love,
As it struts and coos,
I'm sure he smiles up above.

Now you know I loved this one and kept it Betty Lou.  This is now a favorite.

Betty Lou...this is absolutely wonderful!

And this part?...

"And is that why doves strut and coo,
Because they helped God's dream come true?"

I just love the whole idea of that..

Vicky:  Thanks for your comments and always is nice hearing from you.  I used to watch the doves in my uncle's barn, strutting and cooing in the rafters and wondered if they were feeling pride in the accomplishment of their ancestor and the part she played. I was thinking of that the other day and suddenly had to write about it! Glad you enjoyed!
