I Saw the Hand of Jesus

I saw the hand of Jesus
That was nailed onto a cross
It owed no debt to any man
Yet paid a brutal cost

It was a hand of great benevolence
Denied of all its worth
It was a hand of hallowed flesh
That blessed the sinners of the earth

Yet it was pilfered of it’s healing
It was stripped of all it’s good
It was spiked by nails of metal
It was hammered into wood

It was strapped onto a beam
And it was soiled of earthly mud
It was trembling out of pain
And it was doused in flowing blood

Yet it reached out to the spirit
Of a common lowly thief
It was bleeding of forgiveness
It was dripping of relief

It was once a tiny infant hand
That tenderly unfurled
And from the dankness of a stable
Touched the conscience of the world

It once blessed a sinning woman
And it soothed a child’s head
It cupped the waters of the Jordan
And divided loaves of bread

It was an instrument of mercy
It was gentle, it was kind
It was a compass for the soul
It was a healer of the blind

It was the hand that God anointed
To help mankind to survive
It was slain, then it was saved
It was dead and yet alive

It was ravaged, it was tortured
It was cruelly torn apart
It was pierced by nails of death
And yet it lives to heal my heart

I have seen the hand of Jesus
On a cross at Calvary
It was pointing me toward heaven
Toward that sweet Eternity

Elizabeth,

... and I believe that it led you to write this Beautiful Beautiful poem.

Though very visual at times, I thought that your poem was also a very accurate, informative, and emotional rendition of Jesus and of His most Glorious Hand.

God bless you and thank you for sharing.

-Bob
