Winter comes

and soil lays silent

all the while preparing for new life

      decay has it's noble purpose

of nutrition, to support the new seed of spring

the flowers we loved have died

bulbs sleep in hard darkness

even broken insects lie here

and all the while the roots of weeds wait

in hope

that little crop will take their place when the sun warms their bed

when the sun turns its shining face again

the hated worms will unpack the hardened places

and life will form out of the dead

out of the richness of all we loved and hated last year

But what array of beauty will come!

for this is the Gardener's garden, beloved and never without his plan

How very true!  The rot and worms we shudder at, are the very things that make the soil rich for the lovely gardens we so admire.  My husband uses compost barrels.  Nice poem.

Copperbell, That was a beautiful poem you wrote about nature and it's lifeforms and although I don't like insects I liked your poem because You carried me all the way to the end.

Hugs Kimberly
