Dove’s Coo

There were two pair of mourning doves
In the backyard of our home
One flew into the window
Now its mate is all alone

Each day we see the lone one
And, also the other pair
And wonder if the mournful cry
Is for the one no longer there

This, I contemplated
Then smiled with a sigh
Wondering who could read my thoughts
As a tear formed in my eye

Perhaps they coo in thankfulness
For time on earth they shared
Or might it be a question
As to why they had been spared?

This is a very dear poem.  I am sure that little dove is dear to you.  Love, Joyce

sandgrain:  Of course, this makes me think of Becky!  It's a lovely poem.  We have so many mourning doves around our place and as much as I love hearing them, they do add a sad note to the day.

Very nice sandgrain, very nice.

If nothing is something
then everything is
our thoughts and feelings
and all that exists.

Oh my!  So sad but sure asks a lot of questions doesn't it.  It is a very dear poem you wrote indeed Rae.
