The settlers settled
the Indians bled
we once share a kettle
four children were fed
an outsider meddled
who wanted my spread
the lies which he peddled
sway she I had wed
then I was quite nettled
civility shed
now I'm in poor fettle
but that's enough said

Hah, this is quite clever... makes me wonder if you ever write anything that has more than two main rhymes...

I like the way you chose your meter in this poem, it put the pauses right where they belonged, kept the rhythm perfectly smooth... nicely done.

I also like how you took a positive topic like "thanksgiving" and showed it to be somewhat inaccurate, with your reference to the irony of our celebrating a time that was hardly something worth celebration.

Maybe we should have called it "thankstaking?"

Richard, I love the way you do this, kind Sir. All your poems are written with such elegance....... no matter how many words you say, or don't say. You always get your point across. Now, to me, that's a true writer. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Love To All,
Ethel

Enjoyed the humor mixed with pathos Richard.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Richard, I couldn't agree with you more, sweet friend, while it is nice to have a day dedicated to blessing our loved ones and what He blesses us with, the whole pretext and context and syntax of Thanksgiving is depressing and deceiving and rather shameful to me, rather the holiday should be called Thanksstealing in my opinion! (sigh) This is powerfully heartfelt, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
