Inspired by Sunshine and Rilke...thank you both...

O muse of heart who holds the quill
with hands now worn, too tired to write.
O muse of mind please come to be
these words unfound on moonless night.

I whisper from modest refrain
as shame of self turns down my head.
I call with lips that utter not,
my feet won’t move, with heavy lead.

O muse, please lend to this tired man
a hand in grasp to stand yet tall.
My wish to be a poet, my plan
before the leaves of Autumn fall.

To be a poet, not just a pen
and share one's soul, a tear and heart.
O muse of mine, to have this then
become my name till death does part.

I am...speechless.

And now I have to go find a word that fits...
this masterpiece.

That's it.  I'm hanging up my pen.

Nay!...sayeth the Lord's knight to thee.
For...thee art the blood raging...
the rivers roaring,  winds whispering
through leaves,  the beam of yon moon...

Thee art the SUN...

I think you've succeeded by golly, and even before autumn, this was wonderful.  Kudos to your muse.

Barry, I'm so glad that I went to the back pages tonight to see what I missed over the weekend. If I hadn't, I might have not found this wonderful poem you wrote. Thank you for sharing it.

You surely are
more than a pen
a poet sir
within my ken.

So write your wares
and write them fine,
your words hold muse
in every line.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
