Listening to every heart

Abby’s Windows

she wakes day by distending
forelegs, hind legs, in a stretch
to be emulated,
antsy for sun’s initiation

Rituals were taught by
her, signals are clear and we
have learned them well

Begging clemency if
there are not enough
choices to break fast from,
her tail waves a
pardon

Favored rituals begin,
our only latitude
at weeks end
these mornings are hers and mine

She waits for me to take pleasure
in steaming coffee
then pads to a petite
chair sized for her, one
would think, she graces it
as if it were

A small leap up, the
survey has begun at
her morning window, day
won’t break free
without her being there

As I tend to reading, writing
or simple other things,
one ear is wary of vigilant
small noises

I know them all

Eastern horizon’s red brings
gold to cerulean skies and
glint to smooth coat, ears perked
for first movements
be it human or
animal, she will know it

What shall traipse before her
eye line, a guttural noise tells me
she knows form of the
runner, this sprinter is known

But then, there, a trespassing
across Abby’s eye sight ~
she would take eight of its nine
to chase this black feline from her
gardens, barking is all she’s
allowed and she is all loud
though I shhhsshhh her
to please talk, just talk it out

For others sleep, she
whimpers let me out let me out
and I tell her she is good
to be so watchful…

Predictables continue,
soon western windows call
as sun warms this day,
Abby’s bones soak in carpet’s
heat, eyelids flicker
as squirrels dig winter’s hold of
harvest

Without her windows, there is
doubt that her soul would smile…

(smiles) I think if none of us had a veranda or window we would all panic too! LOL! I have always been fascinated with cats and how they seem to sense so much we don't and when they look out the window you have to think "What is it you see in which I don't?" (big hugggssssss) This is gorgeous, sweet friend, Abby is so cute in the picture, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Karilea,
I confess to be soft on animals. What a delightful read made even more pleasurable by her picture. Thanks.

Absolutley adorable Karilea...
It's amazing what we can learn
from just observing our animal friends.
And they do become family.
Loved this.

Karilea - this is so sweet. Pets give us such fun just watching them and also grace us with unconditional love. Oh, now I am getting all misty-eyed missing my faithful Doberman. hugs to you, Chris

This was wonderful.

It actually reminds me of a sad story that I heard, but its long, so I'll just smile and say I enjoyed this.

Ahhh, even my cat thought this was cute as I read it out loud, as perhaps somehow they just understand?  I never met an animal I didn't like yet.  Cute write Sunshine, and I see the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" she loves her "sunshine".

Whatever you do, don't tell Abby, but I was sure this was a cat until the pic. But then, I'm a cat person...have four of them. 2 that were Mom's before she died.

Love your tale of Abby, though. She's definitely a dog...black feline chasing and squirrel as well.

btw, you may delete my "addastanza" poem if you wish...no one is interested.

Karilea

I love this look at the life of your dog...I'm sure he thinks it wonderful to have such an understading human to love.
