I've been married a thousand years,
I've got diapers on the line,
The stove's in need of cleanin'
But I just can't find the time.
There's a roast in the oven
And a pie on the sill,
As I look out the window
I see my hubby Bill.
His face is unshaven,
His beer belly's hangin' low,
He seems so much older,
Than just a while ago.

I took my apron off,
And headed for the south,
With the wind in my hair,
Gonna find myself,
Care for no one else
--Gonna get me my share!

I found a job in Alabama,
At Emmy Sue's cafe,
I put my apron on again
And slung hash night and day.
Servin' truckers pancakes,
Burgers, fries and ham,
A pinch on my bottom
And a "Thank ya kindly, Ma'am!"
I was workin' harder
But I was on the skids,
My life had no meanin'
Without Bill and the kids.

After pacing back and forth,
I headed back up north
With the wind in my hair,
Back to my family,
Who really needed me
And who really did care.

Now I am back home again
With diapers on the line,
The stove has been cleaned
'Cause my Bill has found the time.
We all work together,
And share the household chores,
No one's taken for granted
By no one anymore.
Now we're a family
And we all share in the load,
We share in the joys as well
As we travel down life's road.

I put my apron on again
'Cause home's where I belong,
Back with my family,
Who show they care for me,
I no longer feel tied down.
No need for movin' on,
We now all get along
And I'm where I wanna be!

Wonderful Linda, just wonderful. Now if we could just get the maid to come in and do all those chores wouldn't life really be grand.

Marti  ~

I actually did have a maid for a while, but I was working so hard at cleaning the house before she came, I realized I was literally throwing good money down the drain by keeping her on!

I am also one to wash and curl my hair before I go to the beauty salon, and I doll myself up before a makeover!

~ Morning hugs!

Salty  ~

Your name intrigues me! Do you live by the sea, or are you the salt of the earth, or do you like salty foods, or are you one of the spices of life? Whatever the reason for it, your name makes me smile as did your reply! Thank you!

Both smiles and wisdom in this one, Linda.  Sounds a lot like real life.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Linda, I really like the moral to this story.
Lots of folks don't realize what they have until they don't
have it anymore. Some aren't as lucky as Bill's wife was......
Sometimes they can't go back.
Thanks for sharing. this was a delight.
