Years ago when the earth was green
And fish swam in clear blue streams,
Bountiful forests were all around
And across verdant fields deer did bound.

Technology has progressed at a rapid pace,
Now the rivers flow with waste,
In lakes and seas our fish do die,
Is it too late to reason why?

Pollution is spreading everywhere,
Smokestacks are puffing into the air.
The water's no longer fit to drink
Are we headed for the brink?

Come all ye peoples, let's unite,
Brown, red, yellow, black and white,
Together we could make a stand
To preserve the future of our land.

Where did we go wrong?
What will there be for our children?

Yes, Linda
I fear for my Grandkids, that they'd never have the opportunity to live as I do, (not that they would want to) on the banks of a still, clean river.
To watch deer and turkey strolling by.
Raccoons, beaver, owls, egrets and yes,A bald eagle are all my neighbors.

Love the Pollyanna that dwells within you!

Ed  ~

It certainly sounds as though you have found your little piece of heaven here on earth!

--and thank you for the kind remark--that was very special to me.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Linda, this is so heartbreaking, I must admit I am a Cassandra and despise how we believe technology will solve the problems of the world when we're only clearing more land to make the technology possible and wastying time in the process! (sad sigh) Nature can simply be saved by leaving it alone! God Bless You, sweet friend, I pray too it is not too late and our children can see a somewhat green future, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Thank you!

Have I ever told you that almost every time I see your name, the song "This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis (Jerry's son) and the Playboys runs through my head?!? Fortunately I love the song! hehe

You are the consumate artiste! You even posted your reply in Mother Nature's green!

Like you, it pains me to see the rape and pillage of nature's beauty and bounty.

Strip mining, strip forestry... Our planet is being denuded!

Oh, darn how much this breaks my heart and rips at my soul. Like so many, I feel powerless to stop it. But writing poems about nature and showing beautiful pictures/graphics is one small way we can remind others that what we have is such a gift and needs to be treasured.

Thank you for the awareness.

Hugs, Marti

I would stand with you

It seems as though money rules over whats right.  These people have no cares about the Earth and what they are doing to it, they just want their flow of cash to keep coming in.  It would probably take the end of the world to stop this greed from spreading. Or lack of the resources these parasites feed off.

sorry it makes me quite angry

Linda, this situation is so sad, isn't it? I also hate
the way people are doing our wonderful lands.
You know how I love the beaches, well, if
the large corporations had their way,
all the beaches would be full of condominiums and the like.
Also, all these beautiful forrests we have would be no more...
then all the beautiful little creatures of the forrest would
also be gone. Sorry to be long-winded, but it makes me
VERY  ANGRY, too.
Thank you, Linda, for writing about such an important subject.

Tree hugs to you. It's a nasty legacy we leave behind when we treat mother earth badly.
I want my daughter to be able to ride the winds with clean air breezing through her lungs, and to see the sunset and sunrise without pollution's disguise.

This poem strikes me very personally. I live in Alaska, a place of mostly unspoiled beauty and nature. But now, all the places I'd frolic and play in as a young child about ten years ago are gone now. All developed into housing. Of course, there's still a glacier and a lot of forest and such... but my point is it won't be here in a decade or two. Anyways, back to the point, the poem was good and truthful. Unfortunately we can't just sit here without technology either... Things will be bad before they get better.

Marti  ~

You are one who speaks most eloquently of
the splendor of nature. You grace us with your magnificent photos of Mother Earth's
bounty and beauty--gentle reminders that we should preserve Her and not take Her for granted.

Poetic Justice  ~

For me, just seeing or hearing the word "Alaska" conjures up images of pristine
natural beauty. It has always been a dream of mine to head up your way and fish for Arctic Char. That would be the ultimate fishing trip for me.

I agree with you, that the technological advances have also improved the quality of our lives in so many ways. It's a double-edged sword. How ironic, that technology may also be the very thing needed to save our planet.

~ hugs to you
